SKETCHING & RENDERING
A fundamental skill that is the starting point for every design and creative project has been sketching. Developing sketching skills has been essential to improve visuals so that original designs and ideas can be clearly communicated.
Rendering has also been a useful tool to add depth to visuals and add to the aesthetics, form and function of designs.
Sketching and rendering have both been crucial elements to the ideation stage of projects.
Experience in working with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Google SketchUp Pro and Blender gives the ability to produce technical drawings; General Assembly (GA) drawings; photo-realistic renderings and visual presentations of product designs, architectural models, interior designs and plans for gardens and playgrounds.
Proficiency in CAD modelling has assisted with the presentation of design ideas and concepts to project stakeholders and has also aided the development stages of a project. Solid modelling has helped to visualise ideas and progress them within 3D space, helping to focus on all the details and materials of a design and improve the functionality and form.
Experience with CAM has developed an understanding of various manufacturing processes to help the production of designs using a variety of different materials. Along with CAD modelling, CAM has opened up opportunities to use a diverse selection of production processes including CNC machining, laser cutting, engraving and 3D printing.
Technical and engineering based worked has included research into many mechanical and material topics, including springs, torsion, technical ceramics and tensile strength testing in carbon steels. This experience has developed a breadth of knowledge on principles of engineering, physics and materials science, as well as an understanding of specific material properties, structure and performance. Putting this knowledge into practice has included using engineering simulation software ANSYS to simulate how materials and structures affect stress distribution in a solid-body. Other engineering simulation proficiency includes using ADAMS software to study the dynamics of moving parts and how loads and forces are distributed throughout mechanical systems.
Engineering simulations have provided great understanding into how these processes can be used to affect designs and the conditions and performance of a product.
GRAPHIC DESIGN & MARKETING
Establishing expertise in all forms of graphic design from illustration and branding to professional publishing and large-scale graphics. Software experience includes Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
Developing an ability to model out of foam and other materials, has allowed the quick creation of mock-ups and helped the visualisation of concepts in 3D. This skill has been a great to quickly develop ideas and concepts early on during the design stages of a project.
BUILDING & MAKING
Breadth of knowledge and experience with working with a host of different materials including metals, plastics, modelling foams, textiles and woods. Experience includes:
Metalworking – including metal stamping, panel rolling and precision machining using lathes
Plastic forming – including vacuum forming, heat bending and 3D printing
Woodworking – including CNC machining, wood laminating, joinery, milling and fine woodworking techniques
PAINTING & FINISHING
Practice of finishing processes includes spray painting primer, paint, lacquer and varnish giving design models and prototypes accurate representations of final proposed materials and aesthetics.
Long-standing hobby and avenue for freelance work, photography experience has covered portraits, events, sports and travel. Post production has included working with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Visit this page for examples of photography work.
FILM & ANIMATION
Film has become a great way to capture projects and events for both personal and professional work. Experience with producing promotional films for previous roles and commissioned work.
