Exmouth Miniature Railway

Branding, signage and draft planning drawings for proposed miniature railway site

With the renewing of the miniature railway in Exmouth, the new owners wanted a new logo that would link to the original miniature railway, The Exmouth Express, that formally ran from the 1980s until 2017.

The new logo incorporated the humanist sans-serif typeface Gill Sans, that was originally based on Edward Johnston’s 1916 “Underground Alphabet”, the corporate font of London Underground. The green, black and white colours used in the logo are strongly linked to the Devon county and are also associated with the train operating company, Great Western Railway (GWR).

Signage was also produced for the railway which was inspired by old railway signs and other signage in the local area (like the Budleigh-Exmouth Cycleway).

Draft planning drawings were also produced and sent to the local council for a proposed permanent site in Exmouth.

The 10 & 1/4 gauge railway is currently operating as a portable attraction that visits county and country shows across Devon. To find out more about the Exmouth Miniature Railway, read their article on Devon Live.
